THE CONFERENCE

The European Solid-State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC) was first held in 1971 in Munich, Germany, to present advances in solid-state device physics, technology, and characterization, fostering collaboration between academia and industry. In 1975, the European Solid-State Circuits Conference (ESSCIRC) was introduced as a sister event focused on circuit design and simulation.

As electronic systems have grown increasingly complex, the need for closer collaboration between device technologists and circuit designers has become more pressing. To address this, the ESSDERC/ESSCIRC Steering Committee (EStC) decided to merge the two events under a new unified format.

The final joint ESSDERC/ESSCIRC conference took place in Lisbon in September 2023. The first edition of the unified European Solid-State Electronics Research Conference (ESSERC) was held in Bruges, Belgium, in September 2024. Honoring its legacy, this inaugural edition was designated the 50th ESSERC.

ESSERC 2026, to be held in Mallorca, will mark the 52nd edition. It will continue with a unified technical and organizational structure, featuring dedicated tracks for circuits, technologies, and joint topics. ESSERC serves as a premier European forum for sharing innovations in solid-state devices and circuits where cross-disciplinary collaboration is key to addressing the demands of advanced system-on-chip design.
